Petition for new Village Hall not be built where the kids play

Tuesday, July 14, 2015

We the voters and interested parties in the Village of Maiden Rock, oppose the building of a new village hall, especially in the Playground, and recommend the board use no more public monies for the pursuit of a new village hall. It is vital that we do not build a building in the only area that is safe for our children to play. The Playground is the only sacred thing for our children to do where they are not next to the train tracks or by the lake. Our village is small, but is growing in number with children of all ages who use this playground on a daily basis, as well as the many vistors and tourists who come through.

Several Maiden Rock establishments will be extending their business hours, throwing open their doors, and welcoming visitors to their unique establishments. Here at the Annex Gallery at Cultural Cloth, we will be highlighting a new collection from a recent textile adventure trip to Peru. Guests to our shop will see many culturally rich pieces and home decor items, including one-of-a-kind hand woven rugs. These rare, vintage treasures were hand-carried from remote areas of Peru to Maiden Rock by Cultural Cloth co-founder, Jody Slocum. Several other Maiden Rock businesses have special events planned for Meander visitors, too… Open House at Secret Heart Gallery: BJ Christofferson, artist/owner of the Secret Heart Gallery, is known for her large scale Day of The Dead Installations at the Minnesota Science Museum. She’ll help guests usher in fall with an Open House and invitation to view her new, original art and many collectibles. Cider and home baked cookies will also be served. Open House at The Green Queen: The Green Queen, a garden-themed shop, will be sparkling with luminaries. Don’t be surprised if you hear the notes of a trumpet lofting from the gardens. Shop owner, Nikki Werner, will show a recently acquired collection of architectural reproductions sure to enhance any gardenscape, with many other discoveries to be found within the shop, including market baskets, indoor/outdoor rugs, artisan jewelry, statuary and much more.. Dave Meixner - Maiden Rock ArtistDave Meixner (on the porch of the Smiling Pelican Bakeshop): You’ll recognize Dave from his work behind the counter at The Smiling Pelican; however, he’s also a regionally respected potter and nature photographer. Meander visitors will have the rare opportunity to view his salt glazed stoneware and photography on the porch of the Smiling Pelican Bakeshop. Maiden Rock Inn - Maiden Rock, WI - GrottoThe Grotto at Maiden Rock Inn: Innkeepers Gary and Jennifer Peterson of the Maiden Rock Inn welcome you to their Grotto. Come warm yourself beside their bonfire, hear the backstory of their historic school turned inn, and enjoy great conversation with other Meander guests.
